Introducing the New DSD-5000 Non-Load Break Disconnect

The DSD-5000 Non-Load Break Disconnect has been developed to provide an economical option for installing and servicing surge protective devices or other parallel devices up to 5,000 VAC.  It utilizes an easy to operate rack and pinion mechanism providing a quick and reliable means of disconnect.  The polycarbonate enclosure is rated NEMA® 4X and it includes mounting feet providing installation versatility.  The operating wheel features a spring loaded locking pin which functions automatically in both open and closed positions.  The DSD-5000 is ideal for surge protective device and other parallel device installations where shutting down operation is undesirable.

The Best Warranty in the Industry

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Maxivolt MV-Series and WS-Series Surge Protective Devices carry an unparalleled 5 Year warranty.  The warranty you get with your Maxivolt surge protector is like no other in the industry.  If your surge protector has a light on (as shown below) that will not go out upon re-fusing the device, simply contact Maxivolt and send us the device back.

A serial number located inside the device will tell us when the device was sold and as long as the surge protector was not purchased over 5 years ago, we will promptly return your device repaired or send you a brand new surge protector.  Our technicians will also evaluate the device to determine the cause of failure and inform the client of our findings.

“Unconditional” Warranty

Our lawyers will not allow us to advertise our warranty as being “unconditional” but in reality it is just that.  We have replaced surge protectors that were installed improperly, we have replaced surge protectors that were damaged by a forklift in a warehouse, we have even replaced a surge protective device that was damaged by a cow trying to scratch his side on the utility pole the surge protector was mounted on.

Be Wary of Long Term and Down Line Equipment Warranties

An application specialist here says it best, “What the BIG print giveth, the fine print taketh away.”  Many surge protection manufactures out there today are offering $20,000 or $50,000 or even $250,000 down line equipment warranties with their surge protection devices.  Claiming that if any equipment is damaged down line from their surge protector, they will pay to replace that equipment.  Consumers should be wary of these types of guarantees and always read the fine print.  Here is an excerpt from one of these warranties:  “If (company X) determines that the connected equipment was not used under normal operating conditions, the warranty is void.”  To me a surge event would qualify as “not normal operating conditions,” so in essence the warranty states that if a surge event occurs the warranty is void.

Some companies will also boast 10 year, 20 year, or even 30 year warranties.  In every case we have seen this warranty includes this phrase or one similar – “(Company X) warrants to the original purchaser for (X) number of years that a newly purchased product shall be free from defects in design, assembly, material, or workmanship.”  All this does is gives the purchaser a guarantee that if they purchase defective product they can have it replaced free of charge.  So once you install the device your warranty for all intensive purposes is void because the newly purchased device was free from defects.

When you purchase a Maxivolt MV-Series or WS-Series surge protective device you are guaranteeing yourself the best protection available for your equipment for a time frame of (at the very minimum) 5 years.  As we like to say, “We own it for 5 years,” meaning if you have any problems with it within 5 years, it’s our problem, not yours…

WHY SO SERIOUS? – SAFETY FUSING

MAXIVOLT – SERIOUS SURGE PROTECTION

WHY SO SERIOUS? – A SERIES OF BLOG ARTICLES EXPLAINING WHAT SEPARATES MAXIVOLT SURGE PROTECTION FROM OTHER SURGE PROTECTORS AVAILABLE TODAY

WHAT MAKES MAXIVOLT THE BEST SURGE PROTECTOR?

REASON 1 – SAFETY FUSING

Every surge protective device MVC builds incorporates safety fusing.  The reason is simple.

Non-fused or improperly fused surge protectors cause fires and endanger their surroundings.

Just type “surge protector caused fires” into your google search bar and see for yourself.

Its scary to think about how many unsafe surge protection devices are out there.

This goes for plug-in surge protectors, hard-wired devices, and surge protection components built into electronics.

The picture below was taken by a Maxivolt Application Specialist while working with a client.

Non-fused Surge Protection is Dangerous

Mounted on the side of this cabinet is a non-fused surge protective device.  The violent failure of this surge protector was so extreme it actually welded the door of the cabinet shut.  Thankfully nobody was around when this occurred or the outcome could have been much worse.

Simply fusing a surge protective device will not necessarily prevent scenarios like this from happening.  Fusing must be properly engineered into the surge suppression circuit at precise levels.  Some methods of fusing such as thermal fusing can provide inconsistent results depending on certain factors such as temperature.

Maxivolt surge protection devices incorporate the most dependable type of fusing available.  Safety is MVC’s first priority. This is why we say Maxivolt surge protectors are designed to be safe without compromising performance.
